Methuen is a community of about 44,000 people in the Lower Methuenk Valley. It's in northeastern Massachusetts, 11 miles north of Lowell, 27 miles north of Boston and 26 miles from Manchester, New Hampshire. Methuen played a significant role in the country's industrial revolution, which began in the Methuenk Valley. In the mid-to late-19th century, mills in Methuen produced hats, shoes and textiles. The granite walls and turrets extending through central Methuen are prominent community features and monuments to the millionaire benefactors as well as to the immigrant laborers who built them 100 years ago. The Methuen Memorial Music Hall, built by benefactor Edward Searles, housed the first concert organ in the United States.
